Oral Surgery

Looking for an Oral Surgery in Schomberg?

Many dental procedures require the specialized skills of an oral surgery. This in an area of dentistry that includes tooth extraction, wisdom tooth removal, implant surgery, and bone grafting, or ridge and sinus augmentation. Oral surgery procedures often involve preserving teeth by intervening and helping the mouth’s bones and gums support the teeth.

Here is a bit more about oral surgery procedures performed at Kay Dental Care:

Tooth Extractions

Tooth extractions are routine dental procedures used to remove decayed, damaged or otherwise problematic teeth. Dentists usually make every effort to preserve natural teeth, although sometimes an extraction is necessary. Although the procedure is performed in a dentist’s or oral surgeon’s office, it is considered surgery. Depending on which teeth are removed, they may be replaced with a dental implant or another oral prosthetic.

Wisdom Tooth Extractions

Wisdom teeth are the last four teeth to erupt in our gums. Sometimes they emerge without complications, but for some patients, they must be extracted to prevent overcrowding and infections. Most wisdom teeth can be removed in-office either under anesthesia or twilight sedation.

Bone Grafting

Bone grafting, also known as ridge and sinus augmentation – is a procedure used to build up the bone beneath the surface of the gums. The bones in the upper and lower arch of the mouth are responsible for supporting the teeth. When one or more teeth fall out, bone resorption occurs naturally. When patients decide to replace missing teeth with dental implants, insufficient bone mass can prevent them from qualifying for the procedure. Bone grafting addresses inadequate bone mass by filling in eroded areas with bone harvested from the patient’s own body, or that of a cadaver or animal. The new bone helps promote new bone growth that will eventually support a dental implant.
